The
Northeast Burying Ground is located along the old Beecher Road. It was begun as
a cemetery in 1805. There are 99 graves there, the oldest one being from 1796
(having been relocated from the Pike’s Hill Cemetery) and the newest from 1929.
However,
these 99 graves are only from 25 families (Alcox, Bailey, Barns, Beecher,
Bradley, Brockett, Bronson, Carter, Combs, Churchill, Horton, Hotchkiss,
Jerome, Jones, Lindsley, MacBurney, Norton, Peck, Plumb, Pond, Royce, Seymour, Smith,
Tyler, Wiard).
Many
of these families are intermarried. The
Alcox, Bailey, Beecher, Bradley, Brockett, Churchill, Comes/Combs, Horton, Jones,
Norton, Plumb, Smith, and Wiard families are related. The Bronson, Carter and Lindsley families are
related. And the Peck, Pond and Tyler families are related.
And,
like many other groups of individuals from Wolcott History, the majority of
these individuals are not-so-distant cousins of mine.
